The existing generate cut/fill report on the Civil 3D Volumes Dashboard creates an XML file that is immediately opened by Internet Explorer. With the up-coming end of life for Internet Explorer, many companies and IT departments are already removing IE from existing computers and just not installing it at all on new ones. This will break the functionality of this existing tool.
Project Explorer is an add-on to Autodesk Civil 3D, and is only available with a subscription to the Autodesk AEC Collection. With this tool, you can create many types of customized reports of Civil 3D Objects.
In tthe following linked video, Seiler Design Solutions will show you how to make a custom volume surface report using the Project Explorer add-on for Autodesk Civil 3D 2022.

Hi Mark,
Awesome tip on Project Exlporer. I am trying to run a Material volumes off of sample lines from a corridor and some grading objects. Now, it seems Civil 3D isn’t generating a Material Report from the Analyze/Volume Report/Style Sheet and I select the “Masshaul – Multiple Materials”. I checked around Project Explorer and could not find a way to create a Mass Haul Report. Would you happen to have some insights on this?
Rene:
Project Explorer does not have an interface to read data from cross sections so there isn’t really a way to generate a report based on end area calculations. It reads the sample lines and the raw sections, but not any of the material calcs that take place in the section views, from what I can see.
I can look into alternate methods as time allows. The XML file for the report does get created in the %TEMP% folder.
